Hi friends,

We know your inbox is packed, so we’re keeping this quick and hoping you find some of the comms tips below useful.

Tips for Foundations & Nonprofits Navigating 2025

2025 has been a lot and it’s only May. We’ve partnered with several different organizations to help them be better prepared for potential attacks on their funding. Below is a short framework to get you started if your organization is trying to decide when and how to respond to the next surprise from the White House.

  1. Keep the main thing the main thing. Stay focused on the issues that are your organization’s main focus. Don’t swing at everything, because people won’t hear the most important things you’re trying to say.
  2. Know your crisis management team. Before you’re in a crisis, make sure you’ve identified your team who will be on call during a crisis with decision making responsibility. Hint: the bigger the team, the less likely you will be able to move swiftly.
  3. Pick your moments. Not every moment demands a statement. In a crowded media environment, reactive statements aren’t always strategic.
  4. Let values lead. Define your principles before the pressure hits. When controversy knocks, your internal clarity will shape smarter external moves—and help you avoid missteps that weaken trust.
  5. Don’t go it alone. Shared messages, coordinated action, and unified fronts travel farther and hit harder—especially in this fractured landscape.
Spotlight: A TED Talk on AI Worth Watching

For the last five years, we’ve had the privilege of partnering with Tristan Harris and the Center for Humane Technology on their communications. Tristan’s new TED Talk—"Why AI is humanity’s ultimate test and greatest invitation"—is a must-watch.

In it, he makes the case that AI could create a world of abundance—but only if we learn from the harms of social media and choose a wiser path. It’s a clear, powerful call for building technology that serves humanity, not exploit it.
