We work with political candidates, nonprofits, progressive organizations, major companies, and national law firms. Our partners and vendors are also leaders in their fields. We are based out of Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, and are currently working remotely. Although we are an entirely remote firm, our preferences are for either DC-area or California-based applicants.

What You’ll Do

  • Manage client and client teams: You will serve as the chief strategist and visionary for all client teams you oversee, including independently delivering strategic advice and expanding relationships with existing clients. We pride ourselves on providing excellent service to our clients. You will lead and run components of political campaigns by developing and executing high-level strategic communications plans, ensuring that long and short term goals are achieved and deadlines are met. You know how to delegate, set reasonable deadlines, and create client-ready work. Additionally, you will provide fiscal stewardship of firm resources and client budgets.
  • Expand our client base: You will actively pursue new business opportunities, confidently leading pitches and submitting proposals to secure new clients. This includes bringing your own business contacts to the firm, as well as leading pitch teams to represent the firm at key gatherings, convenings, and conferences. You know how to win over potential clients, craft winning proposals, and network in a virtual world and in person. You have contacts nationally, and in key states to bring to bear.
  • Communicate clearly: You will discover and understand the needs and goals of each client and create tailored programs and plans for each. We pride ourselves on creating bespoke campaigns; we want you to be creative, responsive, and a strategic partner. You are an expert at writing, revising, and managing teams to produce a range of plans, including campaign launches, paid advertising plans, general consulting plans, and general program design.
  • Earned and paid media: You will oversee the creation and execution of earned and paid media strategies. You will help candidates craft compelling messages and content to move voters, and, when applicable, oversee the vendors we collaborate with on those communications and placements.
  • Build relationships with all stakeholders: It will be important for you to build relationships with clients, team members, and vendors, and to do so in a remote environment. Building rapport over the phone, zoom, and email is crucial. Upholding a strict level of confidentiality, while establishing and maintaining trusting and warm relationships both internally and externally is key.
  • Be a team leader, team player, and grow: We are currently a mid-sized team but are continually growing. As a senior leader, you will provide mentorship and leadership development to Bryson Gillette staff. We have an all-hands-on-deck approach in a remote working environment. To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable working both independently and with teams.

What Skills and Experiences You’ll Bring

  • At least 10+ years of relevant work experience in political campaigns, political committees, communications and/or political consulting firms, or in government
  • A track record of business development, sales, and client development and/or a deep network to leverage for business development and partnerships.
  • Experience running candidate campaigns,  paid advertising campaigns, or advocacy campaigns preferred.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including experience with proposal writing, pitching or presenting a proposal or campaign to interested parties, and drafting strategic plans
  • Self-starter, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet changing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organized
  • Strong ability to work effectively with senior management and senior-level clients, while also managing both staff members and external vendors to meet client deliverables
  • A growth mindset

What Would Be Great to Bring

  • Experience working on issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion, and/or social or racial justice advocacy
  • Experience doing work and building relationships in a variety of states, and/or deep political relationships in  any given state
  • Experience in running statewide coordinated candidate-focused efforts, statewide independent expenditures, and statewide ballot measures
  • Experience working with progressive organizations or labor unions that support major candidates and causes 
  • Spanish speaker and writer and/or experience with multicultural media outlets
  • Good sense of humor

Compensation & Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is an annual salary of $150,000 – $200,000. For clarity, this is the starting range for the position; it is not an indication that you are capped at that range once you’re in the position. 
  • Bryson provides insurance coverage for employees and their dependents, which includes fully paid monthly premiums for HMO or PPO plans for health, dental, and vision coverage.

What You’ll Do

  • Communicate clearly: You will lead on political campaigns by developing and executing high-level strategy in the form of strategic communications, electoral, paid media, and issue advocacy plans. You will discover and understand the needs and goals of each type of campaign and create a tailored approach for each. We pride ourselves on creating bespoke campaigns; we want you to be creative, responsive, and a strategic partner. You are an expert at writing a range of communications, including strategic plans, proposals, high-level briefing memos, and other content.
  • Media Strategy: You will create earned and paid media strategies for a variety of candidates and causes. You know what makes a good story and how to turn leaders into champions and top surrogates on critical issues, which is something you hopefully have done in a previous role. You will work on all types of political and advocacy campaigns, assisting the next generation of candidate or issue leader execute smart campaigns on-the-ground, online, and over the airwaves. You appreciate the impact of in-person, retail politics, and understand the need for a digital equivalent in all of the engagement we do.  . Ideally you have existing relationships with reporters and editors or you have run paid campaigns for political candidates or advocacy campaigns.
  • Lead and run campaigns: We pride ourselves on providing excellent service to our clients. You will lead different client teams, ensuring that long and short term goals are achieved and deadlines are met. You will manage multiple campaigns at once and ensure that no balls are dropped. To be successful, you’ll need to stay exceptionally organized and be comfortable managing up and down. You will need to manage a combination of staff, vendors, and client-side points of contact. You’ll need to be able to serve the needs of an individual client, or a client-team with many moving parts. 
  • Build relationships with stakeholders: It will be important for you to build relationships with clients, team members, and vendors, and to do so in a remote environment. Building rapport in the virtual and the real world is crucial. Upholding a strict level of confidentiality, while establishing and maintaining trusting and warm relationships both internally and externally is key.
  • Be a team player and grow: We are currently a mid-sized team but are continually growing. We have an all-hands-on-deck approach in a remote working environment. To be successful in this role, you should be responsive to emails, texts, and calls from clients, team members, and vendors, and be willing to work some nights and weekends as campaigns near critical deadlines.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • This position is for a fixed, 6 month term, with the possibility of extending based on strong performance and needed capacity.
    • The salary range for this position is an annual salary of $90,000 – $120,000. For clarity, this is the starting range for the position.

      What You’ll Do

      • Create communications plans: In this role, you’ll work with our directors to create communications plans and execute on those earned and paid media strategies. You will work on all types of public affairs and political campaigns, leveraging traditional, print outlets and broadcast/cable television, as well as digital and social platforms. To do so successfully, you will be thoughtful, curious, strategic, and use good judgment. 
      • Communicate clearly: With guidance from senior team members, in both public affairs and political campaigns, you will write and craft a range of communications, including media advisories, talking points, proposals, op-eds, ad concepts, direct mail, scripts, social media content, and other content.
